Bhubaneswar: Trucks and other vehicles engaged in mineral transportation will have to register online with the directorate of mining and geology.
At least one lakh trucks in Odisha are used for transportation of major minerals
like iron ore, coal, manganese and chromite.
However, the decision would not be applicable to minor minerals carriers. Commissioner-cum-secretary, steel & mines Manoj Ahuja has issued the directive in this regard, asking the truck owners to register online from December 1.
According to the notification of the department, all persons and companies owning trucks and other motorised vehicles used for transportation of minerals by road or by waterway are required to register with the directorate of mining and geology.
While the application for registration has been made online, the vehicle owners would have to register them by February 28, 2012.
No trucks or other vehicle would be permitted to transport minerals on expiry of three months from the date of this notification, said a departmental officer.
The process has been made very simple, and the vehicle owners would have to register their names and the registration numbers of the vehicle.
The rest would be done by the department in consultation with the commerce and transport department.
This is because once the registration number is obtained the officials would check it up with the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) concerned as details of the vehicle are available with them. The registration shall remain valid for two years from the date of issue of a code number.
This process would pave the way for e-Pass in future, said the officer.
If one fails to register in the directorate of mining and geology, the vehicle concerned would not be given e-Pass..
