First Month of Islamic calendar: Muharram al-Haram

Muharram Al-Haram is one of the four months of Islamic Lunar Calendar declared sacred by Allah (SWT) in the Glorious Qur'an. The other three months of Islamic Lunar Calendar are Rajab al-Murajab, Dhu al-Qa'dah and Dhu al-Hijjah.

In the Glorious Qur'an verse 59 of Surah An Nisa, Allah (SWT) says:

"O you who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger and "Ulil Amr" (Those who are authorized to command) from among you."

The believers always obey Allah (SWT), obey His Messenger and the "Ulil Amr" appointed by Him. It is an open invitation. Because, Laa Ikraaha Fid Deen [There is no compulsion in religion] (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:256). Those who (in truth) are not believers can do what they want.

Likewise Prophets, Messengers, sent down by Allah (SWT) to guide and warn people, never accepted anyone at all as Prophet or Messenger, whatever the circumstances were, be it that they did not stop claimers of this kind, or opponents, with application of force or repression.

In the same manner Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib (A.S.) did not recognize anyone as "Ulil Amr". His elder son Imam Hasan (A.S.), like his grandfather, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) as in the [Treaty of Hudaybiah], let Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan be the ruler, but did not give up his rights of the "Ulil Amr", which he was at that time.

When Yazid ibn Muawiyah became the ruler he threw to the wind the earlier policy of the rulers not to demand "Bayah" (oath of allegiance) from the children of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.), and began to exercise pressure upon Imam Hussain (A.S.) to swear loyalty and acknowledge him as the "Ulil Amr", which the Holy Imam rightly refused. It is another aspect of the whole affair that Yazid ibn Muawiyah was the meanest tyrant of the worst degree, but even if he was an ordinary ruler Imam Hussain (A.S.) could not swear loyalty to him as the "Ulil Amr". So he did not. In the month of Rajab al-Murajab 61 Hijrah, he left Medina and went to Makkah. From Makkah, before performing Hajj Pilgrimage, he took his family with him, and with some friends and companions, true believers, he began the journey towards Iraq, with the expressed intention to cross the boundaries of the empire under the rule of Yazid ibn Muawiyah, and settle down in some other country, Iran or India, because he wanted to make it clear to Yazid ibn Muawiyah that he could not allege obedience to a "non-Ulil Amr" as he himself was an "Ulil Amr".

It was not to be. A large army of Yazid ibn Muawiyah under the command of Umar ibn Saad surrounded the caravan of Imam Hussain (A.S.) when he reached Naynawah, Karbala, on the 2nd of Muharram Al-Haram in 61 Hijrah.

KarbalaThere are several other aspects of human relationship and behavior in the events of Karbala that took place in the 10 days of Moharram Al-Haram, culminating in the Martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S.), and his 72 friends and relatives, which come into sharp focus as we recount every minute, during the religious gatherings, each year, but, above all, the ultimate reason remains the same, the impossibility of taking "oath of loyalty" (Bayah), by an "Ulil Amr", to obey a "non-Ulil Amr".

After Imam Hussain (A.S.), all his successors to "The office of the Ulil Amr", our holy Imams, refused to obey "Non-Ulil Amr", and every ruler held each of them prisoner, used every trick, applied force and in the end killed every Imam, exactly as Yazid ibn Muawiyah did.

Muharram Al-Haram is a month of mourning for the lovers and followers of "Ahlul Bayt or Aal-e-Muhammad". In this month, on the 10th day (Ashura) in 61 Hijra, Imam Hussain bin Ali (A.S.), the grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) and the younger son of Imam Ali and Fatima Zahra (S.A.), together with his family and friends, in all 72 men, were slain on the sands of the desert of Naynawah, Karbala. Since then, each year, the true followers of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.), through grief, sorrow and tears, keep alive the message, cause and purpose of the greatest martyrdom in human history.

No doubt Moharram Al-Haram is a holy and sacred month:

The believing men and women, in this month of Muharram Al-Haram, suspend application of good effects of days and dates and avoid rejoicing even if happy events come in their stride.

Shah Ast HussainThe friends and followers of "Aal-e-Muhammad" hold meetings (Majlis), they had been doing so, for last fourteen hundred years, in the name of Imam Hussain (A.S.), during the months of Moharram Al-Haram (and Safar al-Muzaffar), particularly in the first 10 days of Moharram, to give new life to the Divine Message of "Laa Ilaaha Illallah (no one worthy of being worshiped but Allah)" as the beloved saint poet of the Indian subcontinent, Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (of Ajmer) had said: "Indeed Hussain (A.S.) is the architect of 'Laa Ilaaha Illallah' both are reciprocally related to each other."

And the philosopher poet of Pakistan, Dr. Muhammad Iqbal, had said: "Ismail was the beginning (first step), Hussain was the ultimate."

Each year (at the advent of Moharram) Islam turns over a new leaf.

In fact it is on account of Imam Hussain's remembrance, every year, we know who the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.), Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib (A.S.), Fatima Zahra (S.A.) are, and what were their true substance, style and wisdom.

It is because of Imam Hussain's memory, we call to mind each year the Islam, and it becomes clearly visible from behind the blur of the dust of delusion, thrown into the eyes of Muslims in the name of Muslim rule.

Online registration mandatory for mineral trucks in Odisha:

Bhubaneswar: Trucks and other vehicles engaged in mineral transportation will have to register online with the directorate of mining and geology.

At least one lakh trucks in Odisha are used for transportation of major minerals
like iron ore, coal, manganese and chromite.
However, the decision would not be applicable to minor minerals carriers. Commissioner-cum-secretary, steel & mines Manoj Ahuja has issued the directive in this regard, asking the truck owners to register online from December 1.

According to the notification of the department, all persons and companies owning trucks and other motorised vehicles used for transportation of minerals by road or by waterway are required to register with the directorate of mining and geology.

While the application for registration has been made online, the vehicle owners would have to register them by February 28, 2012.

No trucks or other vehicle would be permitted to transport minerals on expiry of three months from the date of this notification, said a departmental officer.

The process has been made very simple, and the vehicle owners would have to register their names and the registration numbers of the vehicle.
The rest would be done by the department in consultation with the commerce and transport department.

This is because once the registration number is obtained the officials would check it up with the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) concerned as details of the vehicle are available with them. The registration shall remain valid for two years from the date of issue of a code number.
This process would pave the way for e-Pass in future, said the officer.

If one fails to register in the directorate of mining and geology, the vehicle concerned would not be given e-Pass..

Most Dangerous Insect in the World

You might not realize it, but mosquitoes are actually the world’s most dangerous insect. In terms of ‘dangerous’, we are referring to it as being the insect that causes the most life threatening effects. Mosquitoes are able to transmit diseases without actually becoming infected themselves.

The leading mosquito transmitted disease is Malaria. Each year, mosquitoes are responsible for 300 million new cases of Malaria. In fact, about 10% of the world’s population is infected with the disease. According to the World Health Organization, three million people die from Malaria annually. Along with Malaria, mosquitoes can transmit countless diseases- including Dengue fever, Yellow fever, West Nile virus, encephalitis and elephantiasis.

Mosquitoes are such a nuisance because they are found all over the world except for in Antarctica. In North America alone, there are approximately 170 different species of mosquitoes.

It’s estimated that mosquitoes will be responsible for the deaths of 1 in 17 people currently living. With about 700 million people becoming infected with mosquito transmitted diseases each year, do yourself a favor and follow a few rules to greatly reduce your chances of mosquito bites.

Mosquito Bite Prevention:

  • Wear mosquito repellent. DEET is often regarded as the best repellent available.
  • Wear light colored clothing. Mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors.
  • Wear as much clothing as possible. Although mosquitos can make their way through clothing, it will cut down on bites.

Mosquitoes are most active at dawn and dusk. Plan outdoor activity accordingly to avoid these high-risk times.

Question: Did you know mosquito’s are the Most Dangerous Insect in the World? What Animal do you think takes this title?

World’s Most Dangerous Dogs

What do you think is the most dangerous dog? A pit-bull, right? Nope, wrong. Surely then it must be a Rottweiler, a German-Shepherd, or maybe even a Chow-Chow. Again, nope, no-way, and incorrect. The correct answer is… a Dachshund. Yes, you read that correctly. Dachshunds are the most dangerous type of dogs. Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania recently surveyed 6,000 dog owners and found that “one in five dachshunds have bitten or tried to bite strangers, and a similar number have attacked other dogs; one in 12 have snapped at their owners.”
So, surely the number 2 dog on the list must be a pit bull, right? Wrong! It appears that Napoleon Syndrome is real because the number 2 dog is a Chihuahua. Chihuahuas have similar statistics to dachshunds when it comes to biting strangers, their owners, or other dogs. Completing the top 3 list is the Jack Russell Terrier. So, why is that we assume pit bulls, Rottweilers, and Chow Chows are the most dangerous dogs?

The answer is actually quite simple. It’s because most clinical studies on this subject use medical data as the basis for their research. Since big dogs create bigger wounds they’re reported more frequently and this causes the medical data to be skewed inaccurately toward big dogs. Truthfully, all breeds can be provoked to bite. Whether or not a dog actually bites is generally a result of how well it’s been trained and treated. So, the question really is what dog breeds are genetically predisposed to aggressiveness? Here’s a list, in no particular order, of the 15 most dangerous dogs.

1. Giant Schnauzer – Similar to German Shepherds, the Giant Schnauzer was trained in Germany to assist soldiers. This dangerous dog possesses the size of a Great Dane with the intelligence of a Schnauzer. These qualities in addition to his natural tendency to be fiercely loyal make this a dog of which to be aware. Stranger anxiety in the Giant Schnauzer is more common than other dogs.

2. Akita Inu - The Akita Inu is a heavy boned, powerful, and alert dog. He possesses a dignified and courageous persona and has a tendency to be aggressive toward other dogs.

3. Chow Chow - According the American Kennel Club, “… the Chow is reserved and discerning with strangers. Their cat-like personalities make them independent, stubborn and less eager to please than other breeds. They require early socialization and training, and some kind of exercise daily.

4. Bullmastiff – The Bullmastiff is fearless and confident. They were originally bred to guard natural game preserves from poachers as such they are natural guardians of the home, but do not bark much, as silence was a virtue when guarding the preserves. Bullmastiffs are independent thinkers and may not respond to traditional obedience training.

5. Papillion – The Papillion, is very small and very loyal to its family. It can be weary of strangers and though they are generally sweet tempered they need to be watched carefully around non-family members or other dogs visiting their home.

6. Old English Sheepdog – Old English Sheepdogs (OES) are athletic and energetic and require lots of exercise. The OES was bred to herd sheep. He has retained his natural tendency to herd whether or not there are sheep and accordingly he may try to herd people or other objects. He is generally a loving, sweet animal but may become aggressive if he feels someone or something is interfering with his herding job.

7. Dachshund - The Dachshund, meaning “badger dog” in German, was bred to dig into holes, hunt for, and fight to the death with badgers. Dachshunds tend to be territorial and in order to make the integration into family life as smooth and happy as possible he requires consistent assertion from his owners throughout his lifetime.

8. Llasa Apso – Llasos were bred for hundreds of years as indoor watchdogs. They are naturally suspicious of strangers. Additionally, the dog possesses an aloof and independent personality – it requires consistent handling throughout it’s life and requires daily walks or exercise. Llaso’s are best for adult only families.

9. Miniature PinscherMiniature Pinschers are fearless, animated, and independent creatures. They are spirited, and require consistent reminders about who the true alpha dog is in the family.

10. Jack Russell Terrier (officially known as Parson Russell Terriers) – These little dogs are bright and very energetic. They require lots of exercise and are better in families with older children as they do not tolerate rough handling from small children.

11. Pit Bull – What is commonly known as the pit bull is officially known in England as the Staffordshire Bull-Terrier and in the United States it’s known as the American Staffordshire-Terrier. Whatever you call it, this dog is actually very people-oriented and is happiest when he is made part of the family and given a job to do. He is generally very friendly but is loyal to a fault to his family and will protect them from any threat.

12. Rottweiler – Rottweilers love their people and are protective of their territory. They do not welcome strangers until properly introduced. Obedience training and socialization are musts.

13. German Shepherd - The German Shepherd is a renowned guard and military dog. It is also a loving family companion. The breed is direct and fearless, with a strong, muscular body. He is a great family dog and is only on the most dangerous list because he can be trained to be aggressive (as can most dogs)

14. Dalmatian – The Dalmatian is the only horse “coaching” dog in the world and he has retained a natural affinity for horses. Dalmatians are very energetic and require daily long walks or romps in a fenced yard. Without regular exercise he can become destructive.

15. Chihuahua – Swift moving and terrier-like in behavior, Chihuahuas are highly intelligent and should not be underestimated even though small in size. They do not tolerate the rough handling that comes with young children so they are best for families with older or no kids.

Remember, all dogs can be provoked and all dogs, given the proper training, can be well mannered animals. Whatever breed you decide to add to your family it is important to socialize your pet with other animals and people as soon as possible. Also, consistent routines, affirmation, and discipline will make your new dog a happy member of the family.

Most Dangerous Sharks

Are sharks really dangerous? Well, watching ‘Jaws’ could tell you something about that. Any shark which is bigger than 6 feet (1.8 meters) is a possible threat to humans due to its size and adaptations, like jaws and stronger teeth. These sharks do not specifically troll for human flesh, often humans are mistaken for seals, sea lions or other common prey animals. According to the official list issued by Institute of Shark Attack Files (ISAF) of most dangerous sharks the White Shark tops the list with 451 attacks recorded till May 2009. The other followers are Tiger Shark (158 attacks), Bull Shark (120 attacks), Requiem Shark (75 attacks), and Sand Tiger Shark (59 attacks).

1. Great White Shark
The great white shark is recognized to have most fatal attacks on humans. The danger related with this species is unquestionably associated with its size and the curious way of approaching its assumed prey. Since swimmers and surfers resemble seal or sea lion from below the water, they are mistaken as the shark’s usual prey.

2. Tiger Shark
The tiger shark stands second to the white sharks in the number of attacks on humans. Tiger sharks are known to live in warm waters and thus come in regular contact with humans. Its large size along with the hunting style mostly close to the shore or ocean surface, indiscriminate appetite and natural curiosity makes them predominantly threatening to divers and swimmers.

3. Bull Shark
The bull shark is third in the number of human attacks. Characterized with its big size and habitat including populated tropical areas and freshwater bodies, it becomes a more probable threat than white or tiger sharks.

4. Requiem Shark
Standing fourth in the rank, Requiem sharks are accountable for a great share of human attacks. But due to the difficulty in identification of individual species, the degree of inaccuracy is high in attack records.

5. Sand Tiger Shark
Fifth in the row is the sand tiger shark. They live in shallow waters and thus are more in contact with humans. Its long teeth make its appearance more deceiving.

The other considerable dangerous species are Shortfin Mako Shark, Hammerhead Shark, Black Tip Shark, Narrow Tooth Shark, Blue Shark, and Nurse Shark.

Most Dangerous Snakes

What does the word snake bring to your mind? A long, slimy creature with a deadly bite, well as popularly believed, not all snakes are poisonous. In fact, there are just about 10 percent from the total types of snakes that are poisonous. Snakes have long been associated with deadly attacks killing its victims, especially be movies such as ‘Anaconda’. Though snakes are baleful, venomous creatures, their existence is extremely important to maintain the ecological balance of the earth. Snakes are, legless, elongate, amniotes covered in overlapping scales. They are found in all the continents except Antarctica, from the deepest jungles to the islands. They have fifteen ‘families’ which comprises of 456 genera and more than 2,900 species. Their size ranges from tiny, 10cm thread like snakes to large pythons which are around 7.6 meters (25 feet) in length.

Here are five most dangerous snakes in world:

1. Philippine Cobra
‘Standing’ proudly on Number 1 is this comparatively smaller yet sturdy brown snake. Never judge it on its size, as this 3 feet reptile has the deadliest venom in the world. Found in open fields and dense forests, its bite has the potential to incapacitate the healthiest of human beings.

2. Cotton Mouth Snake
Cotton mouth snake are dark brown or olive green and may be even solid black in color and are 20-48 inches long, having dark bands around their body. These killers are found in Southeastern half of the United States, common in swamps, wetlands, marshes, rivers, ponds and streams.

3. Belcher’s sea snake
It has thin body and usually yellowish chrome in color. Surrounded by dark greenish bands it can hardly be recognized in dense vegetation. Its length varies from 0.5 to 1 meter. It is commonly found in seas of Indonesia, South Pacific and Philippines near Panay and Visayan islands.

4. Inland Taipan
Inland Taipan is olive and dark brown in color. Average length of taipans is 1.8 meters to a maximum of 3.7 meter and is found in Northern Australia and Southern New Guinea.

5. King Cobra
King cobra is olive, brown and green in color with rings resembling intersecting bands of black. Its typical length is 1 meter with maximum of 1.5 meter. It is one of the most popular snakes in the world, and is found in Sumatra, Southern China, Malaysia, Borneo, Java, Sri Lanka and India.

Though not all snakes are dangerous, it’s best to be wary of them and take precautions, especially when you are out in the wild.

Most Dangerous Spiders

Who said the teeny-tiny spiders could not eat up a human being? This is no science fiction but the truth. Nearly all spiders’ are venomous, but just few have the capability to harm humans. Mainly spiders use their poison to paralyze their kill and then consume it, some also use it for self defense. A spider bite can lead to severe symptoms like extreme pain, nausea, swelling and even death. Some spiders possess neurotoxic venom, which affects the nervous system, whilst some have necrotic venom, which damage the tissues surrounding the place of bite. Following are some of the world’s most dangerous spiders:

1. Brazilian Wandering Spider
It is the most venomous spider and is mainly found Central and South America. They hide in shelters during daytime, and roam in the forests during night. At display of threat these spiders raise their body in an upright position and lift its front legs in the air swaying its whole body. They are major cause of human deaths due to spider bite. They do not hesitate to attack anything, which appears to be threatening.

2. Australian Funnel Web Spider
These spiders are found on the eastern coast of Australia. Ranging from 1 to 5 cm in size it is of dark brown or black in color, with a glossy covering. Their fangs are large and strong, pointing straight downwards. The toxins contained in the venom are known as the Atracotoxins. Even if the toxins are not dangerous to wild animals, they are very harmful to humans. Its venom can cause death within 15 minutes of bite.

3. Black Widow Spider
They are glossy black in color and have an hourglass like picture in red color on the thorax. Its venom is of neurotoxin type. The bite is usually not painful, but later swells and fang marks are visible. However, most bites don’t have serious long term effects, but they are known to be fatal.

It is important to have detailed information before dealing with them. Even if small, their venom can easily incapacitate a normal human being.

Most Dangerous Bridges

Which is the most dangerous bridge in the world? The one at the highest crossing in the world, or one with weak structure! Well, maybe both of these. Bridges are used for crossing over a hurdle such as gorge or river. Here are some of the most dangerous and precarious bridges in the world.

1. Inca Rope Bridge
The bridge is situated in the southern province of Kanas, and made of special herbs through manual labor. The structure made of ropes spans 366 meters and is renovated every year by the local inhabitants. They are a simple suspension type bridge used for crossing deep rivers, gorges to facilitate travel within the Inca Empire and were an integral part of its road network. Supported by plaited branches and cables made of grass these bridges could sustain pressures of speeding horses and carts.

2. Hussaini – Borit Lake, Pakistan
The Hussaini-Borit Lake Bridge in Northern Pakistan is a major tourist spot for sheer thrills. Built on Hussaini Borit Lake, no authentic record is available of its creator. This picturesque piece of engineering is considered among the most dangerous bridges in the world because of the difficulty it poses while crossing. This is because of the instability in balance and wide spacing of the wooden planks to step on. The bridge swings viciously due to winds and travelers risk the chance of being thrown off in the water to possible death. It is located close to the village Passu surrounded by small hamlets.

3. Glen Nevis Wire Rope Bridge
It is a fine-looking bridge and popular in Lochaber, Scotland, having Fort William located at its base. It is surrounded by the Mamore range in the south, while Ben Lewsi which is the highest mountains located in the British Isles, cover the north.,
It has one of the three highest waterfalls in Scotland named Steall Falls, where the Allt Coire a’Mhail meets Nevis in the glen. Glen Nevis is a picturesque and well-liked glen in Lochaber, Highland, Scotland

4. Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge
The famous Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge spans a chasm 80 feet deep. Earlier its structure had only one cable hand bar and broadly placed planks which enabled the people to go across. The single hand bar was later substituted with two hand bar bridge. The existing one was set up as an additional security measure.Though there is no major accident on record, on many occasions visitors had to be evacuated as they were unable to walk back over the bridge. Constructed to serve the requirement of local fisher folk, the uniqueness of its construction made it a tourist destination.
